Questions about scooters

Most of our e-scooter models do indeed have a thumb throttle, as this is the most practical option for most users. With the Egret Ey! 3, however, we also have a model with a twist grip.

Unlike most other providers of e-scooters, we don't just sell the vehicles, we develop them ourselves in Hamburg.

If you take a closer look at e-scooters, you will notice that our Egret Originals e-scooters (Egret One, Egret X, Egret X+, Egret Pro, Egret GT and Egret GTs) are characterized by a multitude of unique features and stand out due to their attention to detail, which is not common on the market.

The models of the Egret Ey! Family, which we are launching in cooperation with YADEA, one of the world's leading manufacturers of electric two-wheelers, are characterized by a very good price-performance ratio - and of course they meet our high standards of quality and design, just as our in-house developments do.

We are passionate e-scooter riders ourselves, which is why we know exactly what it takes to ride safely and have fun. On the other hand, we are satisfied with nothing less than the best. As a result, our vehicles are high-quality, reliable and durable - and they also look very good!

We also attach great importance to service. If you have any questions or if something goes wrong with your e-scooter, our well-trained service team will be on hand to provide you with quick and uncomplicated advice and assistance.

Choosing the best e-scooter depends entirely on your individual needs. Each of our e-scooters is specially designed to meet different requirements.

Our e-scooters are as diverse as the people who use them. We offer customized solutions to ensure that everyone can find an e-scooter that suits their individual needs and tastes.

It's best to start by thinking about what you want to use the e-scooter for. This will often tell you whether you need a vehicle with a long range, low weight, large tires, suspension or a low price. Based on this, we can work together to find the ideal model for you.

However, we can assure you that all of our e-scooter models are fun and will get you to your destination safely and reliably. And the trend is simply towards second or third e-scooters 😉

How much power/motor performance do your e-scooters have? Which is the most powerful?

A maximum continuous rated power of 500 watts is prescribed for e-scooters in Germany. The rated continuous power refers to the average power of a motor over a certain period of time. The higher it is, the better. With 500 watts, we achieve everything that is possible with all our models.

Our Egret GTs e-scooter can even have a rated continuous output of 1000 watts and can therefore travel at 45 km/h!

There is a little more leeway with the maximum or peak power. This indicates what power the e-scooter can provide for a short time, i.e. the performance on hills or when starting off.

Our current models have the following performance parameters:

Model Motor rating Peak performance
Egret GTs 1000 Watt 1890 Watt
Egret GT 500 Watt 1620 Watt
Egret One 500 Watt 1000 Watt
Egret X+ 500 Watt 900 Watt
Egret Pro 500 Watt 950 Watt
Egret Ey! 1 500 Watt 1512 Watt
Egret Ey! 2 500 Watt 1188 Watt
Egret Ey! 3 350 Watt 864 Watt
Egret Ey! 6 450 Watt 864 Watt

Basically, the higher the peak power, the easier your e-scooter will climb slopes and the faster it will accelerate. At 20 km/h, however, that's the limit for everyone - except the Egret GTs.

Please note that performance on hills and when accelerating - as well as the range - always depends on a variety of factors, e.g. load, riding mode, temperature.

Do you need maximum power? In our view, absolutely not. Especially if you don't plan to ride uphill regularly, you can safely opt for a model with a lower peak power. They are all fun, and we simply enjoy riding e-scooters too much ourselves.

Torque is the force around a lever arm that the motor can build up. A high torque is particularly evident when accelerating, climbing hills or when carrying a heavy load. A standard torque on the market is between 10 Nm and 15 Nm.

Our current models have the following performance parameters:

Model Torque
Egret GTs 47 Nm
Egret GT 62 Nm
Egret One 35 Nm
Egret X+ 35 Nm
Egret Pro 27 Nm
Egret Ey! 1 40 Nm
Egret Ey! 2 25 Nm
Egret Ey! 3 18 Nm
Egret Ey! 6 35 Nm

Basically, the higher the torque, the easier your e-scooter will climb slopes and the faster it will accelerate. However, the limit for e-scooters is 20 km/h. An e-scooter can still reach up to 45 km/h.

Please note that performance on hills and when accelerating - as well as the range - always depends on a variety of factors, e.g. load, riding mode, temperature.

Do you need maximum power? In our view, absolutely not. Especially if you don't plan to ride uphill regularly, you can opt for a model with less torque without worrying. They are all fun, and we simply enjoy riding e-scooters too much ourselves.

The suspension travel is the range in which the vehicle can compress and rebound or bounce up and down while riding.

On the Egret Original Series models (Egret One, Egret X+ and Egret X, Egret Pro), the suspension is provided entirely by the large pneumatic tires. This means that suspension is indeed provided, but via the tires. Independent testers, e.g. ScooterHelden or HennTech, have subjected the various models to endurance tests and have shown that the suspension works at least as well as on suspension models from other manufacturers.

With the Egret Ey! Family we have taken a different approach. The Egret Ey! 1, Egret Ey! 2 and Egret Ey! 3 models have full suspension. They differ in terms of suspension travel.

The Egret Ey! 6 is only suspended at the front with a suspension fork.

Our current models have a suspension travel of:

Model Suspension travel
Egret GTs 50 mm
Egret GT 50 mm
Egret Ey! 1 61 mm
Egret Ey! 2 60 mm
Egret Ey! 3 43 mm
Egret Ey! 6 25 mm

Isn't more suspension travel better? Generally speaking, more suspension travel means a more comfortable ride, but it also makes getting on and off the e-scooter a little more difficult because the footboard is higher.

If you don't plan to regularly ride over very uneven surfaces or ride with a heavy load, the models with less suspension travel or suspension via the tires are perfectly adequate for you. They are all fun, and we simply enjoy riding e-scooters too much ourselves.

On our models with suspension (Egret Ey! 1, Egret Ey! 2, Egret Ey! 3 and Egret Ey! 6), the suspension is fixed and cannot be modified.

On the Egret GT and Egret GTs, the front and rear suspension can be adjusted.

All our e-scooter models are characterized by high-quality workmanship, a solid range and safe and stable handling. For this reason, our e-scooters are probably not the lightest on the market. At the same time, all models have a weight that allows them to be lifted into the car or used to negotiate a few steps:

Model Dead weight Max load capacity
Egret GTs 34,9 kg 150 kg
Egret GT 33 kg 150 kg
Egret One 23,8 kg 125 kg
Egret X+ 21 kg 120 kg
Egret Pro 22,5 kg 120 kg
Egret Ey! 1 29,8 kg 120 kg
Egret Ey! 2 23,4 kg 120 kg
Egret Ey! 3 18,6 kg 100 kg
Egret Ey! 6 21,6 kg 120 kg

Please note that the maximum load does not only include your own weight, but also any additional load.

Egret e-scooters are solidly built, so there is no risk that they will break down or stop working if you overload them.

At the same time, however, you must be aware that the riding characteristics change with a higher load, e.g. the braking distance becomes longer and the range shorter. You must also expect increased wear and tear and a potentially shorter service life. In addition, you must not forget that an e-scooter is a motor vehicle under German law and overloading an e-scooter is treated in a similar way to overloading a car.

For people whose height is outside this range, we recommend our Egret Pro, Egret GTs and Egret One models. These e-scooters are characterized by an adjustable handlebar, which allows comfortable use for people from 1.20 m to over 2.05 m tall.

We would like to point out that we do not offer any extensions or other accessories for modifying the handlebars. Furthermore, we strongly advise against attaching unauthorized third-party parts to the handlebar. The use of such parts will invalidate the general operating license (ABE) and the warranty for the e-scooter. Furthermore, safety cannot be guaranteed when using the e-scooter with third-party parts.

Model Height-adjustable handlebar? Recommended body sizes
Egret GTs Yes 1,20 – 2,05 m
Egret GT No 1,30 – 2,05 m
Egret One Yes 1,20 – 2,05 m
Egret X+ No 1,40 - 1,95 m
Egret Pro Yes 1,20 – 2,05 m
Egret Ey! 1 No 1,60 – 2,10 m
Egret Ey! 2 No 1,40 – 2,00 m
Egret Ey! 3 No 1,40 – 2,00 m
Egret Ey! 6 No 1,40 – 2,00 m

The range of a battery charge varies depending on various factors such as load, riding style, surface conditions and temperature. It is therefore difficult to make a general statement.

However, on the product pages of the individual models at http://my-egret.com you will find information on the maximum ranges that are realistic under optimum conditions:

Model Range
Egret GTs up to 100 km
Egret GT up to 100 km
Egret One up to 65 km
Egret X+ up to 60 km
Egret Pro up to 80 km
Egret Ey! 1 up to 65 km
Egret Ey! 2 up to 45 km
Egret Ey! 3 up to 30 km
Egret Ey! 6 up to 55 km

These figures are intended as a guide and may vary depending on the influencing factors mentioned.

In Germany, there is no legal obligation to wear a helmet for e-scooter riders. However, we encourage all e-scooter riders to protect themselves and their health! Regardless of speed, a helmet can have a protective effect in the event of an accident and prevent serious injuries.

Also find out about helmet requirements in other countries if you plan to use your e-scooter abroad.

Safety first, and we support anyone who opts for additional protection.

Our Egret GTs belong to the L1e vehicle class (e-scooters) and require a suitable helmet according to the STVZO.

The legal framework for e-scooters can vary greatly from country to country and is also subject to change. There are no uniform regulations for this vehicle class throughout Europe.

We ask for your understanding that for these reasons we cannot provide any specific information on the regulations abroad. We recommend that you find out about the current regulations directly from the local traffic authorities or relevant bodies before traveling abroad. This will ensure that you meet all requirements and are traveling legally.

For Egret GTs in vehicle category L1e, on the other hand, there are uniform regulations throughout Europe, so you can drive this model anywhere.

In Germany, the speed limit for e-scooters that are allowed to drive on public roads is 20 km/h.

Although there is a legal tolerance limit of 10 percent, this is mainly intended as a safety buffer. With our e-scooters, the battery power output can vary under different conditions such as load, road conditions or battery charge level. This can cause the speed to fluctuate a little to ensure an optimal and safe ride.

At Egret, we ensure that these fluctuations remain within the permitted tolerance while guaranteeing your safety and compliance with regulations. Your safety is our top priority!

If you do want to ride faster, our Egret GTs offer more power as an e-scooter. You can go up to 45 km/h or limit it to 25 or 35 km/h if required.

If you have purchased an Egret e-scooter registered in Germany (with license plate and data confirmation), it is not permitted to modify the maximum speed.

We strongly advise you not to deal with this issue, because: Any changes to the driving characteristics of the vehicle will immediately invalidate all warranty claims and your insurance cover.

Please ensure that the original configuration and speed of your e-scooter complies with the approved specifications and thus guarantees optimum safety.

No, it is not possible to modify the maximum speed of your Egret e-scooter. At all three speed levels, it reaches a maximum of 20 km/h or a maximum of 25 km/h for international versions.

However, there is a pedestrian mode on all models. This is intended for the e-scooter to ride alongside you at walking speed while you push it. It then reaches a speed of approximately 6 km/h. You can find out how to activate pedestrian mode in the manual of your e-scooter for the Egret Originals models and in the menu together with the other driving modes for the Egret Ey! Family models in the menu together with the other riding modes (walking).

Riding in pedestrian mode is possible, but difficult. The slower the vehicle is, the more difficult it is to keep your balance.

The Egret GTs (up to 45 km/h) can be throttled to 25 or 35 km/h via the menu.

For safety reasons, cruise control is not permitted for e-scooters in Germany - which is why Egret e-scooters naturally do not have one.

Our Egret Original Series vehicles (Egret One, Egret X+ and Egret X, Egret GT, Egret GTs and Egret Pro) are all water-resistant (IPX5), and the battery even has an IPX7 rating. This means that you can ride all Egret e-scooters even in the rain and on wet surfaces. The models in the Egret Ey! Family (Egret Ey! 1, Egret Ey! 2, Egret Ey! 3 and Egret Ey! 6) are IP67, i.e. also water-resistant.

We are from Hamburg - otherwise it would not be possible for us.

Nevertheless, we advise increased caution on wet surfaces. Riding behavior can change, e.g. the braking distance can be longer than normal and there is a risk of slipping. Therefore, please ride carefully at all times.

As soon as you have reached your destination, we advise you to let your Egret dry or dry it off. This will increase the service life of the individual components and prevent increased wear.

Safety is the most important aspect of our vehicles. For this reason, all Egret models have two independently functioning brakes. These vary depending on the model:

Model Brake system
Egret GTs Hydraulic 4-piston disc brake (160 mm brake disk diameter)
Egret GT Hydraulic disc brakes (160 mm diameter)
Egret One Hydraulic rim brakes (Schaeffler B-Safe)
Egret X+ Hydraulic disc brakes (160 mm diameter)
Egret Pro Hydraulic disc brakes (120 mm diameter)
Egret Ey! 1 Front: mechanical drum brake
Rear: mechanical disc brake & electronic engine brake
Egret Ey! 2 Front: mechanical drum brake
Rear: electronic engine brake
Egret Ey! 3 Front: mechanical drum brake
Rear: electronic engine brake
Egret Ey! 6 Front: mechanical drum brake
Rear: mechanical disc brake & electronic engine brake

Whether you opt for a model with hydraulic, mechanical or electric brakes, you will always be safe on the road.

Hydraulic brakes, especially large disc brakes, are generally a little finer to modulate, but very serious in their braking performance - you may have to feel your way around the dosage a little. The big advantage is that they offer consistent braking performance until the brake pads are completely worn out, as they are self-adjusting.

Compared to disc brakes, drum brakes are not quite as ambitious - but of course just as safe. They are much more resistant to wear. However, you may have to adjust them from time to time as they do not do this automatically.

No, absolutely not. Regardless of whether you choose a model with hydraulic, mechanical or electric brakes, you will always be safe on the road.

So it's more a question of personal taste, because all three are safe.

The e-scooter models in the Egret Ey! Family can use their electric brakes to feed the energy generated during braking into the battery, i.e. recuperate it.

Under the right circumstances, this allows you to gain a few percentage points of battery power and optimize the range of your e-scooter.

As the range depends on a variety of factors, it is not possible to predict exactly how much further you will get with recuperation in individual cases. Of course, the recuperation performance also depends on your riding style. The more you brake, the more energy can be recovered. At the same time, it is important to note that the braking distances on an e-scooter are short compared to a car, for example.

The climbing ability of our e-scooters depends on various factors, such as your payload, your riding style, the nature of the surface, the ambient temperature and the charge level of the battery.

In general, our e-scooters can manage short inclines of 10 - 20 %, although this may result in a slight loss of speed. Please note that the final speed and range are reduced when riding uphill.

As we are from Hamburg, our e-scooters are not explicitly designed for steep hills. To ensure the best experience, we recommend sticking to flat and moderate routes.

However, if climbing ability is essential for you, then we advise you to opt for models with high torque and a high peak performance, e.g. the Egret Ey! 1 or the Egret GT.

Finding a suitable tyre is not trivial. There are different designation systems that are not standardized among themselves. For this reason, we advise you to use the original casings and inner tubes that you can find in our webshop.

If you are looking for an alternative, you should know that this is not so easy. Unfortunately, the information in centimetres or millimetres is not helpful, so we advise you to use the information on the original tyre as a guide. These are as follows:

Model Designation Coat Valve alignment
Egret One 65 / 80 – 6,5-AV-7777 90°*90°
Egret X+ 62 – 203 (12½ * 2¼) 60°*90°
Egret Pro 10 * 2,5 (60 / 85 – 6) 60°*45°

We currently only offer the tyre tread with which you received your Egret e-scooter. This is perfectly matched to your e-scooter and offers you the best possible riding comfort and the greatest possible safety.

For this reason, we advise you not to fit other tyres. Firstly, the riding characteristics of your e-scooter may change significantly, and secondly, it cannot be ruled out that your e-scooter will lose its licence as a result of the change and that you will also be riding without insurance cover.

The Egret GTs, Egret GT, Egret Ey! 1, Egret Ey! 2 and Egret Ey! 6 models of the Egret Ey! Family have tubeless, self-repairing pneumatic tyres. A gel layer is built into the tyre casing, which closes holes automatically.

If you have driven a nail or similar foreign object into the tyre, we advise you to remove it. Then inflate the tyre as usual. The gel will now penetrate the damage and seal it immediately. The e-scooter is then ready to start again. If necessary, you should check the tyre pressure again after approx. one hour and pump up the air again.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. Even if the vehicles have the same tyre size, the tyres are unfortunately not compatible.

We use different types of tyres on our e-scooters to ensure the best possible riding experience.

All models in the Egret Original Series are equipped with pneumatic tyres that offer maximum riding comfort and effectively absorb bumps.

Our Egret Eight and THE-URBAN #BRLN models have a solid rubber tyre on the rear wheel.

The Egret GTs, Egret GT, Egret Ey! 1, Egret Ey! 2 and Egret Ey! 6 models in the Egret Ey! Family have tubeless, self-repairing pneumatic tyres. A gel layer is built into the tyre casing, which closes holes independently. These tubeless tyres offer improved puncture protection and ease of maintenance. They are particularly durable and offer consistently high performance by minimising the risk of air loss.

The Egret Ey! 3 has a tubeless tyre, but this does not have a gel layer.

Tubular tyres offer a more comfortable ride and are better at absorbing bumps, but can be more prone to failure. Changing an inner tube is usually easy and can be done by most users themselves, although a few special tools may be required.

No, the tyres of our e-scooters do not contain magnesium. Magnesium is primarily used in our vehicle frames and chassis for its lightness and strength, but not in our tyre material.

Magnesium in the metal alloy provides excellent stability at a relatively low weight, which improves the overall performance and handling of the e-scooter. By using magnesium in the chassis, we increase the stability without significantly increasing the weight. This enables you to enjoy an efficient and comfortable ride. The tyres themselves are made of other high-quality materials to guarantee optimum safety and comfort.

The footboards of our e-scooters are designed to allow you to stand safely and comfortably, even on longer journeys. At the same time, the detailed design of the standing surface ensures a good grip.

The dimensions of the standing surfaces of the e-scooters are as follows - whereby only the area that is actually intended for the feet was measured in length here, not the entire length of the footboard, which curves upwards in the front area, for example:

Model Width Length
Egret GTs ca. 17 cm ca. 46 cm
Egret GT ca. 17 cm ca. 46 cm
Egret One ca. 17 cm ca. 42 cm
Egret X+ ca. 16 cm ca. 42 cm
Egret Pro ca. 17,5 cm ca. 47 cm
Egret Ey! 1 ca. 18 cm ca. 43 cm
Egret Ey! 2 ca. 17 cm ca. 40 cm
Egret Ey! 3 ca. 15 cm ca. 46 cm
Egret Ey! 6 ca. 17 cm ca. 50 cm

We recommend not placing your feet completely next to each other, but slightly offset, with one foot a little further forwards and the other offset accordingly. However, no matter how you position your feet, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and find the right position for you.

Our award-winning Egret One and our new Egret GT and Egret GTs all have a removable battery!

The battery can be replaced easily and safely in just a few simple steps.

Questions about equipment

Together with tex-lock, we have developed the Egret mate by tex-lock, a cable lock for our Egret Originals Series (Egret GTs, Egret GT, Egret Pro, Egret X, Egret X+ and Egret One) that is as secure, lightweight and super comfortable to use as possible.

The core of the Egret mate by tex-lock is made of hardened steel. This is encased in various fire- and cut-resistant layers. In other words: soft (but virtually indestructible) shell, hard core. And so you can attach the cable lock to the carrying hook while riding without it rattling or scratching the paintwork of your e-scooter.

With a length of 120 cm, you can use the Egret mate by tex-lock to connect your Egret e-scooter anywhere you want. Only 1,040 g make it an absolute lightweight.

But the best thing is that the Egret mate by tex-lock fits perfectly into the (partially) integrated frame lock of your Egret GT, Egret GT, Egret Pro, Egret X, Egret X+ or Egret One. This means you always have it to hand and don't get your fingers dirty when locking.

The Egret mate by tex-lock costs EUR 139.00 and is available here.

Alternatively, you can use the eyelet included with the Egret Originals Series to insert it into the (partially) integrated frame lock and thread a lock of your choice through it.

For the Egret Ey! Family (Egret Ey! 1, Egret Ey! 2, Egret Ey! 3 and Egret Ey! 6) we currently have no comparable solution. tex-lock is of course still an excellent address when it comes to good locks. Alternatively, it is best to seek advice from a specialist retailer.

Basically, of course, you can pick any lock if you have the right tools to hand and enough time. And this is where the Egret mate by tex-lock makes it difficult for thieves: the cable lock consists of several fire- and cut-resistant layers, with a hardened steel chain at its core. It is therefore impossible to cut the Egret mate by tex-lock with just one tool.

But of course we have merchandising! We ourselves love our Egret clothing and you'll rarely find anyone in our office who isn't wearing an item of clothing from the Egret collection. We love them because they look stylish, are incredibly comfortable to wear and are also Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified and vegan.

You can find all the latest merchandise on our website: LINK

We are always working to make your Egret experience even better and are constantly expanding our portfolio of accessories.

In addition to the Egret mate by tex-lock cable lock for maximum security, we currently offer other items for the Egret Originals Series that make your life easier or simply more beautiful, e.g. luggage carrier modules, mobile phone holders, a paint pen that you can use to make paint damage disappear in no time at all or chargers for special charging or charging in the car.

You can find these accessories and more on our website: LINK
